Judith's Story
For years, Judith Hughes had considered herself a healthy person, but one warm day in May 2006 she got out of her car and the pain in her knee was so bad she was unable to walk. When she visited a leading orthopedic practice in the Harrisburg area she learned that she had arthritis in her left knee. A cortisone shot was supposed to relieve the pain; however it wasnʼt long before the pain and the inability to walk any distance returned. By August the knee pain was worse. And to make the situation even more painful her back also started hurting. She was admitted to the hospital and eventually received an epidural injection in her back. The injections didnʼt seem to even mask the pain much less solve her problem. “They made me feel worse,” Judith says. “In August I took my animals to the veterinarian. During the course of conversation, she recommended that I contact Dr. Gault,” Judith says. “That was in September, and it wasnʼt until November, when I did not know what else to do that I contacted the Gault Wellness Center.” “When Judith came to see us she was walking with crutches,” Dr. Gault says. “She told me about how she could barely walk fifty feet before she was in serious pain and unable to go any further.
“She also told me how terribly fatigued she would become and that she could sleep 12-13 hours a day,” he continues. “Her diagnosis from the medical community when she visited us was osteoporosis, fi bromyalgia and arthritis. The fi rst order of business was to review her entire medical history and give her an exam and a blood test. “We went over every aspect of the whys and hows of the exam, and laid out a detailed plan of treatment for Judith,” Dr. Gault says. Itʼs important for each of our clients to participate in their treatment if they are to get better.” Judith began to experience some relief in a very short period of time. Much of the pain she had been experiencing was from inflinflammation of the joints. The first step was to change the way Judith ate, and replace her diet with foods and enzyme supplements to reduce the swelling and return her body to a more normal state. With the knowledge of how to properly put foods together and supplement her diet, Judith was able to attack the inflammation with natural remedies, rather than simply masking the pain with drugs. Soon she was walking with only a cane, which she has recently discarded. “It used to be that I was able to walk only a short distance,” Judith says. “Today Iʼm walking 2 to 3 miles a day. Thatʼs 4 walks of about a half mile or more.” “Judith has responded to the treatment extremely well,” Jennifer Gault says. “She doesnʼt experience the fatigue any more, and she has been active in her treatment and the healing process.” “We were confident that we could help Judith,” Dr. Gault says. “What made the program doubly effective was her determination to get well and make some permanent changes in her lifestyle that will and are improving her quality of life."
